7 Breast Cancer Awareness ideas for work (2026)

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month — and the single biggest month of the year for charity races and team fundraising. Here are seven workplace ideas that turn awareness into participation, whether your team shares an office or spans continents.

1

Run a charity virtual race

The backbone of the month: employees log walking, running, cycling, yoga — 80+ activity types — and travel a virtual route together, with company donations unlocked at milestones. Remote and hybrid teammates participate on equal footing. How it works.

2

Peg donations to team miles

Commit a dollar amount per mile (or per participant, or per milestone) to the breast cancer organization your company chooses. Employees see the donation total climb as they move — effort becomes measurable giving.

3

Host a pink day with a photo wall

Classic for a reason. Pick a Friday, wear pink, and collect photos in a shared feed. If you're running a Racery challenge, photos post right to the race's social feed alongside activity updates.

4

Share survivor and supporter stories

With their consent, invite employees to share why the cause matters to them — a colleague, a family member, their own story. A short weekly spotlight gives the month meaning no poster can.

5

Organize lunchtime walk clubs

A standing 20-minute walk, three days a week, all month. Every step counts toward the team's virtual route, and it builds a habit that outlasts October.

6

Add a bake sale or raffle to the pot

Let office-based teams fundraise the traditional way and fold the proceeds into the same company donation — one combined total, announced at the finish line.

7

Book a preventive-health lunch-and-learn

Invite a health educator to cover screening guidelines and early detection. Awareness month should actually make your team more aware — this is the session that does it.

How it works

How a Breast Cancer Awareness Month challenge works.

1

Pick your route and charity

Choose a route from Racery's library or co-build one. Set donation milestones at a level your company controls. We configure the race, bling and emails.

2

Invite your team

One registration link. Employees log on web or app, or sync Garmin, Fitbit or Apple Watch. Leaderboards, photos and milestone content keep momentum high.

No app required
3

Race, give, report

Donation announcements trigger as the team hits checkpoints. After the finish, a post-race report totals participation, miles and giving for leadership.

Your cause, your control

Supporting breast cancer organizations.

You choose which organization your company supports — Susan G. Komen, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, or your own partner. We handle the donation setup; you control the amounts.

Donation dollars never pass through Racery's platform fee — they go from you to your chosen charity, and your giving budget stays fully in your control.

Questions

October challenge FAQs.

Your company sets the giving budget and chooses the recipient organization. We help you structure milestones — per mile, per participant, or per checkpoint reached — and announce progress inside the challenge. Donation dollars never pass through Racery's platform fee; they go from you to your chosen charity.

Yes. Alongside the company donation, participants can share personal fundraising links with friends and family, the same way they would for an in-person charity 5K.

That's the point of a virtual challenge — everyone joins from wherever they are, logging activity on web or mobile in their own time zone. Teams of 10 to 10,000+ work.

No. Racery counts 80+ activity types — walking, cycling, swimming, yoga, meditation, wheelchair activities, and more — so every employee can contribute, regardless of fitness level.

Setup is $0. In self-serve races, each racer pays Racery's per-racer fee at registration; sponsors who prepay racer fees unlock branding, pindrops and concierge support. A month-long challenge for a 100-person team typically lands around $1,800 all-in — see pricing or get a quote. Donation budgets are separate and fully in your control.

Typically one to three weeks from kickoff to launch, and faster when October is closing in. We handle setup, branding, and communications templates — you announce it.
